Dulwich Hamlet FC fail to make play-offs

A thrilling 3-3 draw against Ashford was not enough to keep the Hamlet in the race for play-off places in the Ryman League Division One South. The best chance for a local team will be Tooting and Mitcham, who are second in the league and are ensured of a play-off place. How it Works: Winners of the league get into the Isthmian (Ryman) League Premier Division (national), and from there the Football Conference South (regional), then the Conference itself (national) and on to the Nationwide League. Did you know: both Ian Wright and Peter Crouch used to play for the Hamlet. (23/04/2007)

Contrary to previous musings, it is now thought that M and S are looking at the police station as Walsh Glazing have allegedly said that their old premises were not large enough for the company, and will now host White Goods. Watch this space... (05/02/2007)

Dulwich Hospital Towers

Peckham Rye Paddling PoolThe eastern four towers at Dulwich Hospital have been demolished despite the Save the Onions campaign, who were battling to prevent this loss. Those who can offer assistance to save the remaining onions can contact Martin on m7post@yahoo.co.uk. (07/11/2006)

Goose Green Fair 2006

East Dulwich was out in force for one of the most successful fairs of recent memory. lordshiplane.co.uk was there alongside the campaign against the Peckham tram terminal, seriously good bread and jerk chicken vendors, and activites ranging from judo to basketball. There was a main stage featuring dance and young musicians, and funfair rides for the small ones. Congratulations to the organising team. (09/07/2006)

Peckham Rye Paddling Pool

Peckham Rye Paddling PoolThe paddling pool at Peckham Rye Park has been derelict for years and is a real eyesore. There is a proposal to renovate the pool and to put in water jets that come on and off which children can run through (there is something similar at Brockwell Park). It would be a nice safe play area and would add to facilities in our area really well. The water would be recycled, and if a drought order was in place the facility would be turned off. Amanda Dilnot has started up a petition and is asking Soutwark residents to sign up. Amanda Dilnot can be emailed at amandaj.dilnot@virgin.net: send your name and address for the petition, or ask her to send blank copies of the petition to you by post or email. (23/06/2006)

Café Nero and M and S

Peckham Rye Paddling PoolThe debate rages on in the community over the gradual increase in businesses run by big chains. For many, although fairly happy to live with Somerfields and Iceland, the introduction of Cafe Nero and the rumoured M and S is a step too far, with the fear that other big players such as W H Smiths, Boots and others may not be far behind. Read the messages in our talk section and enter the debate by adding your thoughts on this site. (23/06/2006)

Copleston Nursery Closes

Peckham Rye Paddling PoolAfter a valiant fight by staff, parents and management involving local councillors and MPs, the Copleston Centre nursery will close at the end of July when it has its annual trip to Chessington. To those in the know, the nursery is one of the best in Southwark, but over-provision of nursery places borough-wide has caused an overall drop in the number of toddlers per site. Lordshiplane.co.uk would like to pay tribute to the excellent work of the nursery over the years and wishes the best of luck to staff members when the nursery closes. (23/06/2006)
