Local Scout Groups in the area

Camberwell Scout District serves the areas of Camberwell, Peckham, Nunhead and Dulwich - all of which are part of the London Borough of Southwark. Camberwell District Scouts are a registered charity (Number 314261).

There are 11 Groups in the area - who provide activities across all 5 sections of the Scout Movement. All Groups would welcome new members and additional adult support of any form.

SCOUT GROUPS across the whole of Southwark are looking for people to help maintain and extend their activities. Over the past year the number of members in the area has grown by more than 7.5% and with your help this could be improved on even more. As part of the build up to the Centenary celebrations in 2007 the leaders in all 18 Groups in the area need your help and support, and even if you can help only occasionally, it will still lighten the load.

For example, maintaining the group's premises and their equipment is not a regular job, but it is vital. Even volunteering to help as a Secretary, Treasurer or Fund-raiser would be a bonus for any Group.

Scouts today include both boys and girls, and they are encouraged to take part in a programme of skills and activities so that they always want to try new things and, in doing so, enhance their self-confidence and leadership. Their ages range from Beavers (aged 6 to 8) to Network members (aged 18 to 25).

This is always in partnership with adult leaders and helpers at outings, camps (as popular as ever) and the regular meetings. Such adventurous activities as hill walking, mountaineering, caving, sailing and canoeing, are always supervised by qualified adults and here they need help.

All volunteers are given help towards their training and for their own protection are checked through completion of CRB forms. If you can give any time to scouting in any area in Southwark – ranging from Kennington in the North to Dulwich Village in the South and even across to the Groups meeting just outside the area in Deptford and New Cross, we'd love to hear from you. Ring District Commissioner Philip Andrews on 020 8290 5017.
