24/02/2009 Dulwich Leisure Centre
| Refurbishment kicks off in May or June starting with swim pool and we finishes in March next year. Gym and main studio will open as normal until new gym equipment is installed which will only take few weeks. Even in that particular time, current equipment will be temporarily put in a finished new studio so that customers could still come in for exercise. |

10/02/2009 Goose Green Fence
| After much local concern was expressed about the installation, without consultation, of the fence across Goose Green, the Council decided at the end of 2007 to remove it to reuse it elsewhere in the borough, and to rethink what to do about a fence for a dog free area on Goose Green. The fence is to be removed by the Council Department (Bellenden Renewal Team) that installed it. This was going to happen all last year, but now we are told it should be sometime in the next few months. There will then be six months without a fence and the Parks Department will consult Goose Green users and the local public on whether to reinstate a fence and if so where it should go. Any fence would be similar to the current external fence.
A fence installed to create a dog free area would need to be preceded by a Dog Control Order to create a dog free area so that it could be enforced. A major problem with the current arrangement is that the Council has no powers to enforce a dog free area. The FoGG Management Committee members, just like other Goose Green users and supporters, have divided views about the fence. Some want a dog free area, some want to preserve the Open Space nature of the Green and do not wish to have any fence, some would prefer no fence but are willing to contemplate one to provide a dog free area, provided it is properly designed and located. But we look forward to the current fence being removed so the Council can get on to the next phase of deciding what the feasible options are and consulting the local public. |

10/02/2009 Goose Green Mural
| The bottom half of the William Blake Mural on the house wall overlooking the Playground, was over-painted without warning by the Council to cover up some graffiti. After protests by Friends of Goose Green (friendsofgoosegreen.org.uk) and local residents, Stan Peskett the original artist, now living in the US also protested. The Council said it was a mistake, and apologised to him, and everyone else for taking action without consultation. They asked Stan Peskett for advice, and he proposed a new mural on the same William Blake theme. Like the original one in 1993, this will be done as a project with local children, funded by the Council. The work is expected to be launched at the Goose Green Fair in the Dulwich Festival this year in May. |

10/02/2009 Goose Green Playground
| On the 17th December we celebrated the completion of phase one of the improvement and renewal of the playground, which is for the younger users. We had many excited children and parents attend as it was a lovely winter's day. Pictures can be seen on the Friends of Goose Green (friendsofgoosegreen.org.uk) website's gallery Southwark's Parks Department supplied balloons and a member of FoGG, Steve Storr, designed a colouring sheet for the children to take home. The funding for phase one came mainly from Nunhead and Peckham Rye Community Council Cleaner Greener Safer funds and 'section 106' moneys from the developer of the East Dulwich Road flats opposite. FoGG will continue to work with Green Dreams, a landscape design company, to raise funds and agree layouts and plans for phases 2 and 3 which are aimed at the older children using the playground. Plans for the next phase will be displayed on the Goose Green noticeboards. |

After six months, there will be a public consultation on whether to make the removal permanent. |

23/05/2008 Marks and Sparks to Move Into Police Station
| The word on the street is that M and S are definitely set to move in on the police station site. The building is said to be in poor repair, so we may see the demolition men move in before we can renew our smalls. This will mean a new lease of life for the slightl less propsperous section of Lordship Lane, and we predict the row of shops by the Magdala will shortly be on the up. |

23/05/2008 Dulwich Hamlet FC fail to make play-offs again
| Dulwich Hamlet again were agonisingly close in the race for play-off places in the Ryman League Division One South. However, it was not to be, but fellow South Londoners Tooting and Mitcham secured their place in the Ryman Premier League with a play-off final win against the Corinthians. How it Works: Winners of the league get into the Isthmian (Ryman) League Premier Division (national), and from there the Football Conference South (regional), then the Conference itself (national) and on to the Nationwide League. Did you know: both Ian Wright and Peter Crouch used to play for the Hamlet. |

23/04/2007 Dulwich Hamlet FC fail to make play-offs
| A thrilling 3-3 draw against Ashford was not enough to keep the Hamlet in the race for play-off places in the Ryman League Division One South. The best chance for a local team will be Tooting and Mitcham, who are second in the league and are ensured of a play-off place. |

05/02/2007 Marks and Spencer
| Contrary to previous musings, it is now thought that M and S are looking at the police station as Walsh Glazing have allegedly said that their old premises were not large enough for the company, and will now host White Goods. Watch this space... |

09/07/2006 Goose Green Fair 2006
| East Dulwich was out in force for one of the most successful fairs of recent memory. Lordshiplane.co.uk was there alongside the campaign against the Peckham tram terminal, seriously good bread and jerk chicken vendors, and activites ranging from judo to basketball. There was a main stage featuring dance and young musicians, and funfair rides for the small ones. Congratulations to the organising team. |

23/06/2006 Copleston Nursery Closes
| After a valiant fight by staff, parents and management involving local councillors and MPs, the Copleston Centre nursery will close at the end of July when it has its annual trip to Chessington. To those in the know, the nursery is one of the best in Southwark, but over-provision of nursery places borough-wide has caused an overall drop in the number of toddlers per site. Lordshiplane.co.uk would like to pay tribute to the excellent work of the nursery over the years and wishes the best of luck to staff members when the nursery closes. |

23/06/2006 Peckham Rye Paddling Pool
| The paddling pool at Peckham Rye Park has been derelict for years and is a real eyesore. There is a proposal to renovate the pool and to put in water jets that come on and off which children can run through (there is something similar at Brockwell Park). It would be a nice safe play area and would add to facilities in our area really well. The water would be recycled, and if a drought order was in place the facility would be turned off. Amanda Dilnot has started up a petition and is asking Soutwark residents to sign up. Amanda Dilnot can be emailed at amandaj.dilnot@virgin.net: send your name and address for the petition, or ask her to send blank copies of the petition to you by post or email. |

23/06/2006 Café Nero and M and S
| The debate rages on in the community over the gradual increase in businesses run by big chains. For many, although fairly happy to live with Somerfields and Iceland, the introduction of Cafe Nero and the rumoured M and S is a step too far, with the fear that other big players such as W H Smiths, Boots and others may not be far behind. Read the messages in our talk section and enter the debate by adding your thoughts on this site. |
