Established in 1976, the Surma is one of the finest Indian restaurants and take-aways in the area, winning an award for Best Indian Restaurant 2006 by SE22 readers and voted Best Indian Restaurant by East Dulwich Forum.

The Surma is open seven days a week (including Bank Holidays) between 12 noon and 2.30pm, and 6pm to midnight Mon-Sat, and all day on Sunday. Their meat and vegetables are freshly cooked on a daily basis. They use only the highest possible quality ingredients.

They offer free home delivery for orders over £12, and have a 58 cover restaurant. They have 8 staff members plus part-timers. They also offer a special Sunday Buffet for £7.95 per head (adults) and £4.95 (children under 12).

Angela Burgess of SE22 magazine presented the award for Best Indian Restaurant 2006 to Surma's manager Mr Muzahid Ali. Over the years, many celebrities have dined at The Surma, including local comedian Stephen Frost and Ready Steady Cook's Ainsley Harriot.

BALTI

Balti is essentially a style of cooking similar to a stir fry. All the ingredient are cooked together in the karahi and then served in the same dish, enabling the flavours to infuse with one another. Served with nan bread. All balti served with chicken or lamb tikka. £
