Our shops sell a variety of donated goods - clothing, books, crockery, ornaments etc. We always welcome more volunteers to help with sorting goods and serving.

Meeting Needs

St Christopher’s provides skilled medical and nursing care for people with cancer and some other serious illnesses, and support for their families and friends through the illness and into bereavement. St Christopher’s cares for over 1,600 patients a year in its catchment area of South East London, Bromley and Croydon.

Expert nursing support where it is needed most: St Christopher’s Nurses are available around the clock to care for patients at home - over 460 on any day. This care addresses all the needs of each person as an individual and includes emotional and spiritual care as well as practical support.

Research & Education

We are dedicated to improving patient care through our clinical research, education and training, at both a national and international level. Our Department of Palliative Care & Policy - a unique joint initiative between St Christopher’s and the School of Medicine King’s College London - is developing work which will influence health care policy nationally and enable our special skills in pain and symptom control to be applied to help more people in desperate need.

St Christopher’s education and training programmes for other health professionals include doctors, nurses, social workers and physiotherapists and other carers. The Hospice Information Service St Christopher’s provides information on all hospice services, both nationally and internationally.

Care and Support

The St Christopher’s Day Centre cares for over 20 patients a day and offers a range of activities within a therapeutic framework and access to all hospice services. St Christopher’s Consultancy Service provides short-term help.

We are experts in the area of bereavement in children, and have developed this area of our work to include all children in South East London who have lost someone close to them. This is called the St Christopher’s Candle Project, launched in Spring 1998, which also aims to provide resources and training nationwide for caring professionals working with bereaved children.

We care for everyone as an individual and have no barriers of religion, race or culture.

Hope for the future

St Christopher’s is committed to developing its services to care for all those in need, both in the local community, and through sharing its skills and expertise.

St Christopher’s relies on donations and legacies to continue its vital work. It is a registered charity, no. 210667. Every gift, small or large, is important.
