Open from 11am, The Vale has a 1am license on weekday nights and a 2am license on Fridays and Saturdays, and is the latest opening pub in the whole East Dulwich area. The newly refurbished public house under landlord Gary Cummins has been praised by the police from having a bad reputation in earlier days to being well behaved and trouble-free.

The pub has many separate areas, with a centrally placed bar. There are two large seating areas to the front, a carvery area and a pool area inside; to the back there is a large garden, a children's play area and a vine-covered seating area; and there is also a pavement seating area at the front and a smoking area to the side.

A variety of quality beers are served, and there is a full menu available every day and evening, with a carvery every Sunday. As well as a pool table and juke box, there are three large plasma screens throughout the pub showing top quality sporting events.
